Brown made his first foray into art when he bought a set of oil paints while in high school. Although he had not painted until then, two of his oils won best of show and first place, respectively, in a high school art contest. This early recognition sparked his interest in art and his desire to pursue a career as an artist. Brown also received encouragement from several established artists in the area. Shortly after graduating from high school, he was introduced to Mark Rohrig, who invited Brown to his one-man show in Aspen, Colorado. From this experience in the professional art world, Brown learned that it was possible to earn a living as a painter.

In 1973, Acheff moved to Taos, New Mexico, to separate himself from the influences of his teacher. It was in Taos that Acheff found his niche. Acheff, who is of Alaskan Athabascan heritage, has a special affinity for the historical and cultural artifacts that he chooses to paint. The appealing forms and designs of the Indian pots and artifacts are intertwined with Acheff's preference for painting textures from nature. The vintage photographs that often appear in Acheff's compositions help the artist set a mood. Each article in relation to the others becomes integral to the composition as a whole. The results invite lasting contemplation.
Over 100 nationally known artists are presented at Saks Galleries Cherry Creek during the holidays. The American Art Invitational is an annual event celebrating the finest art and benefitting in part the Colorado Children's Hospital.

The American Art Invitational 2012 presents painter Natalie Featherston, One of the country's most innovative and accomplished young artists, Natalie Featherston works exclusively in the centuries old realm of still life to create dazzling narrative and trompe l'oeil paintings that combine the virtuosity of a Dutch Master with the vision of a thoroughly modern mind. The Chicago Sun Times has described her paintings as "artful beyond just illusion and trickery; they are truly masterful still lifes made with both craft and wit."
"What inspires me most is the creative voice that still life gives. Unlike portraits or landscapes, still life doesn't simply exist around us. You have to actually build the stage for the painting and select the subjects, colors, and textures. The end result must arrive at something that draws the viewer into an invented realm that connects with their experiences in a meaningful way. I have always found still life painting to be quite a challenge for these very reasons, and although it may qualify me for the 'one-trick-pony' category, I can't imagine painting anything else."

| Michael Godfrey "Winter's Best" 12 x 12 Oil About Michael Godfrey Michael Godfrey is an award-winning landscape artist whose work hangs in many private and corporate collections. Born in Germany in 1958 and raised in North Carolina, he earned a BA in Fine Arts and began his painting career in oils and watercolors. He spends hours photographing and sketching, preparing for a well thought out painting. Michael describes his style as a combination of George Inness' impressionism with the moods of an Albert Bierstadt painting. "I paint," he says "to help people notice the special moments that happen every day, especially the drama when light first splashes across a scene." From different perspectives and different times of day, he works to capture and interpret the varying moods of light. "A landscape artist has to have knowledge of many disciplines (geology, chemistry, physics, architecture), to understand the world in which they are trying to create. An artist must observe with the idea that what is observed must be interpreted and distilled. For a landscape artist, it is just as important what is not included in a work as what is eventually laid down. I ask myself, what is the dominant truth—is it color, shape of land forms, or time of day. "'Invented Natural History Illustration' is how I've been describing my paintings," says Chapman. "Visually, the work borrows from various western traditions of depicting animals and plants, particularly the copperplate engravings that illustrated Buffon's Natural History (begun in 1766), as well as Victorian animal portraiture and old scientific illustration. I have tried to present similarly earnest, but basically inaccurate, renderings of animals by using humor, irony and a surrealistic sensibility that is not available to the scientist. In this way I attempt to address the emotion/sensation of Wonder, the conflict between the Real and the Imaginary, and why we accept certain things as True."
Chapman has shown his work from Coolidge, Arizona (solo exhibition, Central Arizona College) to Florence, Italy (2001 Florence Biennale). Most recently he was honored to be chosen by the U.S. State Department to show paintings in the U.S. Embassy in Tunisia, and to have work become part of its permanent collection in Myanmar (Burma).

Sculptor Babette Bloch is a pioneer in the use of laser-cut and water jet-cut stainless steel in creating works of art. Her sculptures explore form and the interplay between object and light, reflect their environments, and expand the ways in which stainless steel is used in contemporary art.
Bloch's works of art embrace her eclectic tastes, her pleasure in aesthetics, and her technical curiosity. Drawing on several traditions in American art, she creates works that touch on Modernist abstraction, the cut outs and collage found in Pop art, and the long-standing practice of story telling in art.
In cutting, shaping, burnishing, and grinding stainless steel, Bloch has developed the material's natural properties of brightness and reflectivity while making the dense metal seem nearly weightless and ethereal. Her distinctive approach is seen in public commissions in her silhouetted and larger-than-life-sized Reflecting History series, seen in Brookgreen Gardens, Murrells Inlet, SC, and Hudson Heritage Farm, Ganges, MI. The fully molded floral and wildlife sculptures from her Reflecting Nature series are on view in museum and private collections in the U.S. and in Europe.

I steer away from commissions, so that I have the freedom to paint what really excites me. Those paintings turn out the best. The oils shown here I painted at my studio at Tula Art Center in Atlanta. I photograph in wonderful homes, catching the light. Then I pour over the photos at the studio, deciding what to paint next...what excites me."
